UK Scent Sport for Sensitive Dogs
A chance for your nervous/reactive dog to participate safely in Scent Work
Service Description
I am starting to introduce some Scent Work classes for nervous dogs that would struggle to be in a classroom setting around other dogs. I will try to explain what this would involve and the criteria for you to assess if your dog is suitable. If you are unsure if your dog is suitable please message me and tell me more about your dog as once my classes start I don’t offer refunds. Your dog would need to be able to wait unattended in your car for short periods of time. Your dog would need to be able to be around people (not in close proximity). Your dog would need to be relaxed enough to eat high value treats, chicken, cheese, sausages etc. What will you and your dog gain from the course? Scent work has so many benefits there are really to many to list. It helps boost confidence, focus and engagement. It helps strengthen relationships and gives an outlet for dogs that want to be doing things all the time. A ten minute scent work session is equivalent to an hours walk. This makes it ideal for dogs that struggle out of the home. You will learn skills that last a life time. You will be able to do scent work with your dogs at home and out on a walk. Giving your dog a task to do when they are worried is often a great way to get their focus back on you in a really positive and rewarding way. Our Scent Work course is suitable for dogs over 4 months, no experience needed! During the course we will teach our dogs not only how to search for an specific odour but also how to show us where it is will a solid indication (think of working dogs at airports etc!). These classes are great for boosting confidence and working on your relationship and focus with your dog. They are fun and relaxed, there is no pass or fail! We will be following some of the elements of UK Scent Sport for you to trial! - Kong Search, Scent Match and Catnip Retrieve. Don't forget to bring an empty small or medium red kong - Yes it has to be red!! Any questions just ask!
